Harbin Hotsprings- California
Beautiful out of the box resort north of Sanfransisco. One of my favourite places. Affordable with Amazing unchlorinated hotspring pools, on site vintage hotel, great restaurant, health food store, creekside camping.
The clothing optional feature took me out of my comfort zone. The first time I was there, I had just arrived and was walking through the pool area still wearing clothes and virtually everyone but the people I had arrived with were naked. I thought wow I am doing really well, being comfortable with this, but then I realized I was walking twice as fast as the people I had arrived with and apparently I wasn't so comfortable after all....
I can't say enough good stuff about Harbin. Beautiful setting with lots of fig trees and a creek flowing through the valley. Very reasonably priced.
If you go make sure you get a watsu session, a form of shitsu (massage) performed in on of the hotspring pools while almost being danced through the water. I still remember moments of both of the Watsu sessions I had, even though one was in the mid 90's. Truly an amazing opportunity to let go and receive.
The Haven -Gabriola Island, BC
Quality workshops in a beautiful ocean front setting looking north up the Straight of Georgia.
This was my first major step in my personal growth. I cried for the first time in years when I was here at 19 in 1986. I went for a 5 day Come Alive program and got rid of 80% of my illness/allergy symptoms in that 5 days.
Being better at figuring out what I wanted, I went back to Winnipeg and promptly quit university. I worked for a bit and returned to take the 26 day Living Alive Phase 1 program and stayed through another 26 days of Living Alive Phase 2 that started right after phase 1 ended.
Attending those workshops gave me the skills to deal with the trauma I needed to deal with. While there I decided I wanted to live and was prepared to do what ever it took to have a great life.
The programs there aren't a fit for where I am at now, but I am so grateful that I found them when I did!
I have lots of great memories from my time there.
If you feel drawn to their programs, go! You will be glad you did.
Hollyhock Cortes Island, BC
This might be the only recommendation I haven't actually tried or experienced, but a visit is on my bucket list and I have heard so many great/lovely things that I wanted to include it anyways.
Ocean front healing and retreat centre. One of my friends described the people who work there as having eyes that glowed with light.
